To Claire; From Sonny (short film)

This film was made by 17 year old Josh Beattie.

Dear Claire,

Okay, well um. Where to start? You’ll probably never read this. In fact, chances are it won’t even reach you. I’m probably just writing this for myself, you know. For therapeutic reasons. I guess I should just say all this stuff. Especially by now, but it helps to write things down or else I stutter and forget, and generally make an idiot of myself.

It’s September 3rd today. That means it would have been our two years and 6 months anniversary. You know I always complained that month anniversaries were for twelve year olds but you always kinda liked the idea so happy hypothetical anniversary. I know you’d probably roll your eyes at me, bringing that up and I’m aware that it’s been well over a year since now you, uh, left me. Well one year, three months, and sixteen days. I think right now, I’ve finished the process you know? And I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that you’re not going to come back—ever. And I think I’m out of the phase where I just lie on my floor hoping that you’d just turn up on my doorstep. You know what, I’m doing okay. Getting there, baby steps.

I’ve even um, I’ve even been sorta seeing a girl. Jess, is her name. They’re going to keep telling it’s a, you know, a positive step in getting over you and stuff. And don’t get me wrong, she’s a nice girl but, different. It’s funny. Your muscles have a certain memory about them. That’s why we can tie our shoes or play piano without looking. But then you spend a long enough time with someone and your bodies memorize each other you know? The warmth of your back, the pace of your heartbeat, your tickly eyelashes and the way your fingers would curl in sequence when I used to play with your palm. Another person is like moving to a new country where you don’t know the language. It’s a scary thing. And she voluntarily eats celery. Who does that?

You know people are always on about, “You’ll find someone else! There’s plenty more fish in the sea!” Well you know what, I feel like a friggin’ fish in a bucket. I’ve been reading lots. Non-fiction mostly. Did I ever tell you about the theory of the multi-verse? It says that there’s an infinite amount of hypothetical universes parallel to ours that contain every single possible set of circumstances.Kinda got me thinking you know? Means that somewhere, there might be a world in which on that 15th of February, we never had that argument, and I didn’t say all those things I didn’t mean, and you didn’t walk away without another word. Or maybe there’s another world in which I—chased after you. And we’d still be together and catch the train together, and do couply things and have bubble tea with those god-awful slimy globules of jelly down the bottom which I hate.

Sometimes, on my way, I walk past your house and every time I do, I get this weird urge to knock on the door which is stupid because I know you wouldn’t answer it. Well, in any case, it’s technically your old house now. You’re—nowadays, you’re quite far away with your new life and all. I wonder if you even remember me sometimes. I—I wish you’d talk to me. Give me some vague sign that you do remember. ‘Cause you know what? I’m not doing well, life is actually pretty shit. And look at me. I’ve gone this whole page without using the L-word once so far. But looking at it objectively, realistically I—I’d say that I still love you. And I’m kinda afraid I won’t ever really stop—loving you. I hope they’re treating you well up there because I miss you more than ever.

I just watched this like, 10 seconds ago or something. It kinda gives us a powerful message, yeah? Take care and thanks for all the support! Hope you’ll keep reading! x

25 Years Of Pixar!

Celebrating 25 years of Pixar, 12 feature films, and 20 short films. Pixar Animation makes the best films, there’s no doubt. Each film is unique and special.

We’ve featured a handful of director montages here on /Film recently, and while this “25 Years of Pixar” compilation isn’t quite that, it’s actually pretty similar. In terms of look, tone, and quality, I’d say Pixar is as consistent as many directors.

For the video, NkMcDonalds pulled scenes from works spanning over decades — from ’80s shorts to this year’s Cars 2. If you like Pixar as much as I do, it’ll definitely make you smile and it might even make you tear up a little tiny bit. Watch it after the jump.

Watching all the Pixar films spliced together like this, it’s very easy to see how the studio has evolved over the years from a technical standpoint. Clips from films like A Bug’s Life, which looked sophisticated at the time, now look clunky next to the sleeker visuals of newer movies like Wall-E and Up.

But it also becomes apparent that the real appeal of Pixar goes far beyond cutting-edge graphics. Pixar films are fun to watch partly because of their lush, advanced CGI, but we treasure them for years because of their commitment to strong storytelling and memorable characters. I don’t know about you, but my eyes started getting that tingly about-to-tear-up sensation when the montage got to the scene of Andy explaining what makes Woody so special. You don’t get that kind of emotion just by throwing money at high-tech equipment.

For your reference, here’s a list of the tunes and films used in the video:
1.Nemo Egg by Thomas Newman (For quote in beginning)
2.Overture by Michael Kamen
3.Kaneda’s Death, Pt. 2 (Adagio in D Minor) by John Murphy
4.Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros

Pixar Feature Films Used (In order of release)
Toy Story (1995)
A Bug’s Life (1998)
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Monster’s Inc. (2001)
Finding Nemo (2003)
The Incredibles (2004)
Cars (2006)
Ratatouille (2007)
WALL-E (2008)
Up (2009)
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Cars 2 (2011)

Short Films: Adventures of Andre and Wally B., Luxo Jr., Red’s Dream, Tin Toy, Knick Knack, Geri’s Game, For the Birds, Mike’s New Car, Boundin’, Jack-Jack Attack, Lifted, Presto, BURN-E, Partly Cloudy, Day & Night, Hawaiian Vacation.

I grew up with these films (and more!) so little snippets really get to me. Happy 25 years! x

Monsters University

Disney revealed today at CinemaCon that the official title to Pixar’s sequel to 2001’s Monsters, Inc. is Monsters University. While details on the film are, in true Pixar fashion, being held tightly under lock and key, the film is said to be a prequel. The rumored plot involves the tale of how Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) become best friends in college, at the University of Fear no less, after starting out as enemies.

No word on which cast members will return for the sequel besides Crystal and Goodman, but hopefully Steve Buscemi’s character Randall makes an appearance. Monsters University is currently slated for a November 2nd, 2012 release.

Run Away With Me

I am in love with this song 🙂 and I’ll be downloading the broadway show soon (hopefully) I can’t stop listening to this song.

The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown is the new musical about Sam, a girl who has what everyone always wanted: brains, a boyfriend, functional parents and an acceptance letter to the college of her choice. So she doesn’t need to be worried about where she is going…right? When you’re young and at a crossroads, the answer isn’t always easy. As the defining moments of her senior year flash through her mind, Sam has to come to terms with her parents’ expectations, her first love and a lost friendship before she can make the first decision of her adult life.

What to Expect:
This is a unique opportunity for those who love theatre to be a part of the process that takes a theatrical piece from its early stages to the big stage. Your participation as an audience member during the run of The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brownwill be essential to providing the show with great insight and valuable feedback needed to take that next step to Broadway.

The intimacy of the Samueli Theater serves as an ideal stage for creators Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk to observe their musical as it develops. This engagement will be the first time they get to see and hear this new work as a fully staged incarnation. The music, lyrics, book and performances will develop throughout the rehearsal process, then will continue to evolve once Samantha Brown is shared with an audience. As a result, no two performances will be alike. After each, the creators and the actors will stand back, evaluate and make adjustments that will focus and strengthen their concept. We encourage you to attend more than one performance to note changes and enhancements. The involvement of the Center’s audiences will ensure that their message and intent are fully realized.

Just as this musical is about Samantha Brown the person’s life journey; these performances at the Center are part of Samantha Brown the musical’s creative journey. We hope you join us!

OKAY. So, I really wanna watch it on broadway but since it’s new and I don’t think it’ll be touring around the world anytime soon, Imma just be sticking to the soundtrack. Now with this song, no matter what version I listen to, it’s still amazing 🙂 I love the line, “Call it crazy, but I’m crazier for you.” Enjoy! x
